Our fundraising bike ride supports the operation of the VIM Free Health Clinic, which provides free primary medical services to the residents of Lebanon County, ages 18-64, who are uninsured or underinsured. An estimated 9,000 to 12,000 Lebanon County citizens are without health insurance at any given time. No one knows how many of these people decline insurance due to the cost or are unable to find care from existing resources. But what is known is this: people without insurance find it difficult to navigate through the healthcare system. VIM Health Clinic provides primary health care, chronic disease management, community wellness issues, and physical examinations. Many of the clinic’s patients are volunteering to help with Tour de Lebanon Valley. Click the VIM logo for more information.
Lebanon Valley Bicycle Coalition is an all-volunteer organization that will also benefit from this event. A portion of the revenue will be used to work with local and state authorities and businesses to assure safer, better bicycling in Lebanon County, provide recreational and educational activities for families, and many other bicycling-related services. Providing bike facilities on roads and streets that need to be safer requires thousands of dollars of local match money to obtain infrastructure grants. If sharrows, green lanes and protected bike lanes are good for bicyclists and motorists in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and other urban areas, they will surely improve bicyclists’ safety in urbanized Lebanon County. Click LVBC logo for more information about their work.
